    Gideon had had her fair share of stepmoms in her life. Or, well, step-step moms? Whatever you called your stepmom's new partner. It was whatever. Pyrrha didn't tend to date the sort of people who were interested in trying to, like, parent her.

    She did start to side eye her a little bit as her partners got closer and closer to Gideon’s age. But, well, Pyrrha could pull some pretty hot women so Gideon had to give her credit where it was due. (Sometimes she'd bring a man home. Gideon assumed they were hot too, but she was a terrible judge of that.)

    But she drew the line when she came home one afternoon to find Palamedes Sextus sitting at the kitchen table.

    “Hi Gideon,” he said pleasantly. “How was school?”
