    Summary

Akane Aoi is one of many things. A model student, a member of the student council, a regular at the coffee shop across the entrance of Kamome Academy (curse their overly expensive raspberry pies that always manage to tempt him), and, to his distress, a closeted gay man. Fortunately, the last trait doesn’t pose much of a threat when he has his best friend, Aoi Akane, as his fake girlfriend. Problems arise, however, when campus heartthrob Teru Minamoto takes an interest in Aoi despite her evident repulsion. Now it’s up to Akane to keep him at bay, while ensuring that he himself isn’t swept off his feet!

    Summary

“Yeah,” Teru confirms. Akane tries to control the bubble of satisfaction trying to reign in his chest at the approval of his inference. He dismisses it as the pride of being validated as an observer, and definitely not because it’s good to know that he still knows Teru best. The boy in question hums in thought. “I just think it’s interesting that whenever humans feel the need to let out their own emotions, they turn to art.”

“Don’t say it like that,” he says, the sharp tone contrasting the softness in his volume.

Teru turns to him with a questioning hum, and now Akane wishes he spoke quieter because, of course, Teru heard him. He always does, as though his ears were trained to pick up on the slightest of sounds the redhead makes —as though all his senses were heightened just to see through him like it was second nature. Teru finally speaks, voice gentle and patient, and it almost almost sounds pleasant. “Like what?”

Akane huffs, eyes averting from Teru who is now looking at him. Perhaps Teru’s more-than-often dazed state isn’t the only thing hindering them from ever actually looking at each other. With a hesitant tone, he responds. “Like you’re not human too.”

    Summary

‘It’s a strange feeling,’ he thinks. ‘To be loved and valued so religiously, and continue to feel nauseating loneliness.’

The cold breeze hits his flesh once more, and it dawns on him that he’s alone —with no servant of the clan to witness him, no younger sibling to fuss over him, and no teenager in love to admire him. At the thought, he allows himself to wince at the feeling (of the freezing air or the lack of companionship, he’s unsure).

    ‘It stings,’ he thinks.

There is a semblance of truth behind his thoughts, as the temperature did little to soothe his bruises. However, there is a sense of irony at the thought of the Teru Minamoto —the same boy who deals with vicious supernaturals with a poker face and smiles through the workload given to him as the Student Council President- letting out sounds of protests at something that can be so easily dismissed.

    Summary

Tired eyes stared blankly at the darkness of the room, eyes closing for a second too long every now and then, as fingers gingerly traced the outlines of the carvings on the table. You have always been so gentle, influenced by your spouse.

    Simeon.

Your eyes wandered back to the phone you left unchecked for a few minutes. The brightness wasn’t set too high, but fortunately for your weary body, it was enough for you to see the message you had sent him not too long ago -without moving from your position.

‘When are you coming back home? It’s already late.’

Surely he’d be able to answer such a simple question.

    ‘I love you.’

    Right?

Your breath hitches as your eyes take notice of the two checkmarks on the bottom of your message. You were delighted for a moment, until you realized that there was still no response.

You let your eyes close for a moment too long.

With a bitter chuckle, you silently wished you had set the brightness even lower.

    Or,

The five times you say “I love you” and the one time Simeon wishes he said it back.
