Summary
“Would you like to give me an example of one of those fantasies?”
Eyes—plural, because with Boothill hovering over him Dan Heng finally has a proper view of both expressive crosshairs—widening, Boothill lets out a small strangled noise and dives down to nip the swollen flesh of Dan Heng’s lips.
“I had ya like this,” Boothill murmurs against his lips, hand coming off the ground to slither along Dan Heng’s side. “Laid out all pretty, with yer books surrounding you.” He skims Dan Heng’s covered hipbone and takes a detour to his lower stomach. “Made you stop thinking, took ya with nothing more than ma hand.”
A small favour, done on the cold floor.

Summary
“You’ve done well,” he says softly, gesturing both to the air and the car behind him.
Hyunjin’s face falls, though only slightly.
“Not good enough,” he replies.

Summary
“Time,” he says tersely. “We don’t know how much time has passed beyond the sky.” He licks his lips, mindful of his fangs, and drives a finger into the grass by his thigh. “And my companions…”
Hyacine gives him a sympathetic look.
“You have adjusted beautifully to the waters,” she says gently in her own carefully prescribed method of comfort. “But even they cannot cleanse homesickness.”
Home, and the stars that await him.

Summary
The feathers of Boothill’s hat are presumptuous in the way that they sway and bend with the harsh wobbling of his head.
Dan Heng keeps an eye on them, following every bend and tilt as they pivot forward and back. It’s an infuriating rhythm, a dance made to drive his already depleted mood further into the ground.
