Rhaenyra had to die.
Rhaenyra Strong was just another old money parasite, a relic of dynastic wealth, a siphon hooked into the throat of the world. An heir to nothing but greed. She would die, and the world would not notice, because the world was already dead. Because the wealthy had made it so. Because they had taken and taken and taken and Alicent had long since decided that she would take back.

At first, Rhaenyra is simply curious.
Curiosity is something Rhaenyra can handle. It's not possible for her to simply shake off the feeling of the unknown. It comes to her as a second nature, she would argue. So she's not really surprised when it happens.

Rhaenyra starts to feel different around her best friend of almost 15 years. Different in a way that is so familiar and yet something that she struggles to understand. Alicent, of course, notices this shift. And she's determined to use it to her advantage — she'll tease and she'll push until she gets what she wants.

in 1930s king's landing, peace between the hightowers and the targaryens— the town's most feared and respected families—is barely being held together. alicent teaches the boys at The Citadel School and does her best to keep her life small and orderly and as far, far away from any of it as she can remain; especially rhaenyra, who has only recently taken over as the new head of the targaryen family.

Summary
“If it is forgiveness you seek for killing my father, you will not find it here,” Alicent says over a scoff, over a nasty sound.
Her daughter sleeps behind her in a cot thin as parchment. Her father’s blood seems still beneath her nails though she has not touched him. The city outside groans under its new queen, Aegon has fled, Aemond has taken Harrenhal, and yet Rhaenyra stands in her stripped room, crownless and terrible, asking for judgment as though Alicent has any right to give it.
Perhaps she does; and perhaps that is the final cruelty.
tldr: the one where they slowly reshape the future of Rhaenyra’s reign, mend what has been broken, and rebuild their own family from the ruins. the slowest of burns, really.
