Summary
Now Esca must simply be imagining things. Before he can talk himself out of it, he takes a step forward, then another, until the ring of lantern light begins to fall on the creature.
When Esca sees human hands and feet, he nearly jumps out of his skin, but instead he stumbles forward until the light reveals a partial human form. There are arms, and legs, and a bare torso, but the broad shoulders are covered with short, dense hair and barely narrow into an immensely thick neck, atop which sits the head of a bull, complete with massive, curved horns.
