They do not talk about what they’re doing. To acknowledge the ground beneath their feet would be to crash and burn immediately, or so Ilya assumed. Like stupid coyote cartoon running off a cliff; it’s fine, until he looks down.
But tonight Shane sits on the edge of his bed and sets his jaw and asks, “It’s not just me, right?”
Shane, apparently, just noticed gravity.

He was always relieved when Shane had distinctly Ilya-free parts of his life, because it meant Ilya hadn’t consumed him the way he wanted to, the way he’d been scared he would since the first time Shane had looked at him for a second too long and a second too softly. And because it made it fair – Ilya would always have a pretty distinctly Shane-free part of his life.
Ilya sees ghosts, Shane's fine with it. It doesn't come up that often.

Summary
There is a very attractive woman in front of Ilya. A woman that wants to fuck him. His body is consciously aware of this very fact, however, his entire brain seems to neglect it, opting to scream look at what’s behind her like a screeching freight train.
On the screen is the dark outline of a person, shot against a blinding sun. Any distinguishable features are obscured, cloaked in dim shadow. Still, Ilya knows exactly who it is.
He would recognize that silhouette anywhere.
Or, Ilya keeps seeing Shane everywhere — on the TV, in advertisements. It may or may not be interfering with his attempts to get laid, and also does nothing to change the fact that he hasn't seen Shane in months.
Set during the 2014-2016 montage era.

Shane felt it again, that tug at the corner of his mouth. He bit on the inside of his cheek to suppress it. “Did a lot of puzzles with my dad,” he said.
“Ah, I am psychic,” Ilya said. Then he winked, which felt delicious, extravagant. Shane wanted so badly to lean in and kiss him he was sure it showed in his eyes.
“I thought you did that silent retreat thing,” Hayden said, frowning.
