Lottie didn’t lower the gun. Didn’t even blink. The steel in her eyes met Nat’s with the same bite they’d always had, the same fire, same storm held barely in check behind a calm mask. Same scar across her forehead, lighter but still there, no bangs blocking it. She looked older now, sure, sharper in the cheekbones, steadier in the posture, but there was softness too. A sudden thought hits Fatin and makes her smile, “You’ve already saved me twice from disgusting men. It seems to be a recurring theme.”
“Twice too many,” Leah sighs ruefully, and Fatin can’t help but think the pout on her lips is way too endearing not to be kissed away.
