He doesn't just look at her eyes, her lips, the way her hair falls across her face before he reaches to tuck it behind her ear carefully. He recognizes her. And a part of him wants to speak out loud, to say Oh. There you are. I've been waiting for you.

    Summary

There’s a cheap, fabric store thread tied to their pinkies that tethers them together and part of that unexpected, mildly unhealthy connection should mean that Robin sees shit. It should mean that she knows things. She should be able to peek into one of Steve’s ears and see his thoughts racing around and bumping into one another, and it shouldn’t matter how quickly they slide away from her because she’d still pick up the gory details of each and every one.

(or, Steve Harrington likes to talk, but it takes Robin an embarrassingly long time to realize that in all of the conversations they’ve shared, very rarely does Steve talk about himself.)

    Summary

“What does platonic mean?” Tommy H asks, looking up from the paper Robin had spent an hour perfecting her messiest handwriting for.

“…At least a B- or you get half your money back,” Robin replies, thumbs hooked through the straps of her backpack. “Four pages, that’s ten bucks.”

“Jesus Christ, Buckley, that can’t be legal,” Tommy says, digging around his bag for cash anyway.

“This isn’t legal,” Robin deadpans, holding out a hand to take the slightly crumpled five dollar bills he offers her.

    “Right.”

“Thank you for your business.” She waits for him to turn and leave the empty classroom they’d met in. Then, “Stupid fucking asshole.”

OR: Steve recruits Robin to write letters to Nancy Wheeler for him. She only kind of regrets it.

    Summary

steve harrington's parents come home and he sends robin away.

    -

“Robs.” Steve sighed, hand wiping harshly at the few tears that had slipped. “Just, please cover for me.” He hated asking that of her. Asking her to lie for him. Robin hated that she’d do it.

That she’d lie and cover and bend over backwards to keep Steve’s home life a secret if that was what he wanted. Even if it made her skin crawl because they’d be getting away with it.

“We can both go out of the window- they won’t even know we were here.” She tried anyway, knowing it was a lost cause when Steve ran his hands through his hair and pulled a little too much. Her hands flailed as she climbed off the bed and moved into Steve’s space, always disregarding personal boundaries. “We can both go to work and then hide out at mine- or we can screw Keith and just go home. Okay? They’ll never look for you there because why would you be hiding at a band geek’s, right? And all we do is just wait them out and it’ll be fine- you'll be fine and safe-”

Steve looked like he wanted to cry the more she talked.

    Summary

Robin and Steve, January 2010, two kids and a house and greying hair. They're happy, for the most part. Sure, they've got boring jobs in an office and neither of them know what a spreadsheet is. And sure, their romantic lives are nothing to write home about. But they've got the twins and each other and it's all they could have hoped for, really.

The kids are shrieking at their video games in the living room (Andy — short for Andrea — and Luke — from the Star Wars film with the funny teddy bears specifically, not (as they’ve had to say many times) after Lucas Sinclair — were both adopted in 2000 when they were babies, twins and terrors). He scowls over at the door and then meets her eyes. “I swear I was never that loud, they’re ten, when do they start being quiet, emo teenagers?”

She snorts. “They might get louder. Slamming doors and loud music. Monster hunting. Just like your other kids.”

Steve rolls his eyes. “If any of them turn out like Mike during the next six years I’m going to the corner shop for milk.”
