“Oh fuck,” he faintly hears. Suddenly there’s a jug of water at his lips that Stede doesn’t even take hold from Ed, just tilts his head back to gulp frantically. It’s not until it starts to trickle out of his mouth that he guides Ed’s hand away.
“Christ on a bicycle, what was that?” Stede gasps.
“It’s weed, mate, what’d you think it was?” Ed half-shouts.
“Tobacco!”
“What? I thought you’d know the difference!”
“You think I’ve smoked that before?” Stede asks incredulously.

Achilles pushes him lightly, laughing. “So rude...! I’m telling you this because,” his hand starts up again, brushing against Patroclus’ newly exposed stomach, “I was thinking today, how jealous I could get at the simplest things. Silly, really, to focus on such an arbitrary experience, and yet I find myself deliberating on how I want to… manifest this. In my actions.” His touch is relentless, switching from tracing along Pat’s hipbone to moving back up to his chest, fully removing the robes that were pushed up and abandoned.
“And have you come to a conclusion?” he asks, and though his voice croaks terribly and he’s certain his expression betrays any sense of calmness he hoped to portray, Achilles smiles, foxlike.
“I believe so. Would you like to see?”

“Aye, I left shortly after you.” Achilles tilts his head, pausing. Gives a small, melancholic smile. “I can tell what you’re thinking. Don’t worry about us, lad. You’ve already done more than enough.”
Zagreus looks down at his feet, embarrassed he was caught so easily. Still, something compels him to continue.
“You two deserve happiness,” is what he finally says, meeting Achilles’ eyes. “I know it. I know it just as I know I’m going to find a way to bring Mother home. The two of you– more than anything, I want you to be at peace.”

Zagreus tilts his head, considering. “Uh, Hermes?”
“M– Mhm?” he tries again, resting an elbow on Charon’s shoulder. That was casual, right? He looked normal. Probably.
“You all right, mate? You’re being… unusually quiet.”
