“You okay? You were on the phone a long time,” Bucky said mildly. Sam looked up, unsurprised to see him leaning against the kitchen counter with his usual sour early-morning face.
“You paying my bills, Bucky? Mind your business,” Sam countered. He allowed Bucky to gently hip-check him on the way to the fridge; they’d fallen into the habit of nudging each other to check in, to reassure each other that they were just joshing. It’s fast; Bucky presses the point to the suit and the armored fabric springs under its point, his chest open to the lights of the emergency room. It’s fast, but he stops breathing enough that he gasps when Bucky’s done with the long, long line down his torso, opening up the top of the suit down to his navel.
Sam reminds himself to breathe, but all he can do is watch this man focus so intently on dragging the tip of a knife just above his skin, his fingertips following as he tugs it off.
Then Bucky's looking around the room to announce, “Suit’s off.” He looks down at Sam. “I’ll be here.”
