Summary
After awakening from her five year slumber, Byleth returns to fight for Edelgard. She soon discovers that facing her former students on the battlefield is easier when she becomes an anonymous knight. Her disguise can only last so long, however, when she encounters someone who knows her better than she knows herself.

It's the tone she might use to address her own. Crossing her arms over her chest, shaking her head, a furrow coming to her meticulously plucked brow. “Have you considered a surrogate?”
“What?” The short, sharp word is out before she realises that she has spoken. Byleth forces her jaw to halt and seize to stop her teeth from grinding.

Summary
Love looked like Byleth’s failures, like the death of Lord Rodrigue, the devastated looks on the soldiers’ faces, and the five years she was gone.
How could she be the head of the church of a woman who had failed her friends too? Byleth had disappeared when she fell off that cliff, but Rhea had not protected the students. She had only tried to protect her. And she did not deserve protection.
“Byleth—”
She startled at her name, backing away to the exit.
“I fought this war for my friends,” she said. “Now that war is over.”

Or, the war is over, and Dimitri is king. The Church wants Byleth as Archbishop, but she makes another choice and Dimitri offers her one...a chance to stay by his side. But all Byleth sees is the hurt she left in her wake when she abandoned the people she loves.

Dimitri had dreamed of losing her before, but never like this. There was always a body to cradle, a vision to reach for. Not... nothing. Not one moment where she was there and gone in the next.
Even if they did somehow both make it out of this snowstorm alive, this was sure to be fuel for a new kind of nightmare to haunt him.
