Your relationship with Tobias had started off friendly. Nice. Sweet. Full of laughter and fun, despite the brutal way you were brought into proxy life. For those few months, you had made the mistake of becoming attached to him. All those patrols, those outings and missions where you faced danger. Where you had each other's backs. You had laboured under the illusion that you were friends. Partners. A small part of you had hoped for more. That maybe he had felt it too.
You watched him bind the wound with clean gauze, Tobias pulled out a silly string of coloured plasters. He whistled. Clicked his tongue. He picked one with a derping dog, the eyes looking in opposite directions. He used it to secure the bandage, over the knot.
'Why do you have those silly things?' You laughed, as he stuffed them back into his pocket. He cocked his head, looking up at you from his half-kneeling position. His smile was distractingly bright.
'A silly dog sticker for my silly brave girl'
But then Natalie....Clockwork came back. And you had realised you were little more than a placeholder.
None of it was real. Not to him. At least that's what you thought.
