Summary
Phillips Exeter and Phillips Academy Andover have hated each other since their inception, since the two boarding schools, pillars of New England, rose from brick towns of New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the 1700s. More than 200 years later, the schools still maintain the longest standing high school rivalry in American History.
William Smith, a golden boy from the heart of Massachusetts, who spent his summers on Cape Cod and his Sundays kneeling in a wooden pew, followed four generations of Smiths to Phillips Exeter Academy, a legacy kid eight times over, a recruit for hockey, and absolutely determined to make it to the NHL by twenty-two. He's coasting his prep year, riding on athletic (and academic) success, and having a great time.

Everything changes when the Andover hockey team starts winning again, with a new Canadian hotshot freshman as their first line center.

Summary
Will still remembers last year's nationals like it was yesterday. They had tied, Will and Mack, for the first time in either of their careers. It should’ve been a bonding opportunity where they both stood on the podium together and smiled the years of rivalry away. But it wasn’t, thanks to Rick Celebrini. Will was waiting next to Mack for the awards ceremony, lined up in a hallway waiting to walk out to face the crowd. Mack’s dad had come storming down the hallways, somehow managing to dodge the NCAA staff that should’ve stopped him from getting down to the pool. He’d first turned his anger onto Mack, chastising him for every minute mistake he’d made that day, and Mack had taken it. Then Rick turned his attention to Will, “you’re good, kid.” He’d said, clapping Will on the shoulder. “But no one drops it in like Macklin, and he deserved to win today.” Mack had looked horrified, on the verge of tears himself as he watched Will’s face crumble.

Summary
There are three things William Charles Patrick Smith is sure of. The first is that he was made for hockey. The second is that he was born to love Macklin Celebrini. The third is that the second of those things will one day lead him down into the pits of hell.
He learns the first long before the second. The other doesn’t come until later.
Or...Will Smith spends years pining in both close and faraway proximities, learning the hard way that loving Macklin Celebrini was never going to be easy, but always worth it.
