Maybe there was a compromise? A way to do both somehow, to have her cake and eat it too. Granted, it might not have been the best idea, but she wouldn't know unless she tried, wouldn't she?

“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”
OR
Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

Everything she does has to sparkle, and it’s been that way since she was a child living in Piltover, attempting to shine beneath her mother’s thumb and her father’s loving but wary gaze. When she gets the chance to flee to the other side of the country in Zaun, all she can see is promise. With a rare jolt of spontaneity, she packs her bags and hops on the plane to ZAX, where she’s sure to find her delightful best friend Jayce and his small but well-designed apartment awaiting her arrival.
Except that when she lands on the other side of the country with nearly everything she owns shoved in two oversized suitcases, Jayce has some news: he’s moving out, with his brand new fling, to another city entirely. Oh, and he found her a roommate.
Or, Caitlyn finds herself on the other side of the country, alone, with a pink haired roommate with an attitude problem and one hell of a job.

"I'll stitch you up when you are back to consciousness" she mumbled, completely wrapped up in the dressing of the wound. So much so that she did not notice the voice that addressed her, at first.
A female voice with a very distinct American accent. The voice sounded exhausted, parched, low, but strong.
"If you're talking to me, you're going to have to speak English sweetheart"
Caitlyn's eyes widened as she looked up from dressing the wound and cerulean eyes found the greyest ones she had ever seen, sending a rush through her that she was unfamiliar with.
Then, Caitlyn spoke.
English this time, laced with a light French accent.
"I told you your wound would need to be stitched up when you were to wake" she simply informed her, ignoring how heart her started pounding yet again.

During the summer of 1943, Caitlyn rescues US Air Force pilot Violet McAdams from a plane wreck in the French country side, and decides to hide her on her farm to allow her wounds to heal properly.
Neither of them in prepared for the romance that follows this foolish, yet courageous decision.

Life was a scale of grays—a distinct lack of color.
Well, that wasn’t fully true. Some people could see color. They were the ones who often became artists, creatives, and teachers. People who could lead others and guide them on the path to supposedly being like them. The running, bullshit theory Nicole always heard in her life was that “When you meet your soulmate, the world will explode with color!” Whatever. That was a load of shit. Destiny, fate, soul mates? Nope. not real. And even if it was, it wasn’t her thing! No way in hell there’d ever be someone out there destined to be with Nicole.
People who spouted all this shit about how they saw the world differently, that things were so vibrant and whatever, they were just liars. People taught themselves whatever shade of gray represented whatever bullshit color. This shade was agreed upon as red, that shade blue, whatever the fuck was whatever they decided and everyone fucking went with it.
