Neuvillette and Zhongli had a connection, one could say it’s simply because they are the same species. However they had seen the birth of life, humans, mortals, creatures and how Celestial took over Teyvat. The two had separate opinions, ideals and mind set. Zhongli abandoned him to help humans, or Neuvillette would bitterly say that ‘Morax foolishly fell for an adepti, how … human of him’.
Now Neuvillette has Furina to train and guide to be a decent Archon, Whilst Zhongli is sipping his osmanthus wine-

Summary
Neuvillette wasn't fooled by Zhongli's attempts to stay hidden in Chenyu Vale. He decided to follow Furina in her next trip to Liyue, but what the Iudex finds out when he finally laid his eyes upon the former Geo Archon, Morax, is that his feelings for the man he once before thought only as an usurper could be a lot more complex in nature than he realized at first.
