The bird doth protest too much. It’s impossible to miss the giddy, almost crazed look in those pretty avian eyes of his as they lock onto you like prey. You can see the exhilaration take him over as he sparks alive, well and truly in his element, hyper-focused in his pursuit to catch you before you splatter against the pavement.
He loves this. He loves you. He's just too chicken-shit to say it outright—or he would be, if you didn't do something about it.
