Summary
Sirius never could play the part of Black Heir exactly right. The lines Walburga fed him fell out of his disingenuous mouth all wrong; Regulus was never sure if it was his lack of conviction to the cause or his resentment at parroting Walburga’s vitriol.
But Regulus? Regulus had always been better at twisting himself into knots to appease those he loved, damage to his own body be damned.
OR
The night Sirius leaves and the next time they meet, told from Regulus’s point of view.

Summary
“I’m worried…I’m worried it’ll change me,” Sirius confessed to the ceiling; Regulus just so happened to be a bystander.
“What will?” Regulus asked.
“The words. Their lies. If people think I mean all that stuff, mean the things she makes me say, how will they know me? They won’t, I mean-- they can’t.”
Regulus stared up at the ceiling as well, now. It didn’t hold any answers.
“So tell me,” Regulus said, “and I’ll know.”
OR
Sirius makes up a game to help them cope. Regulus doesn't see the point, but he'll do it for Sirius anyways.

Summary
“Reg?” Sirius asks. “What’s going on?”
For the briefest of moments, Regulus looks at him — really looks at him — and the red rims around his eyes twist like a knife in Sirius’s gut. Then Regulus blinks, and he’s made of marble.
“I am not leaving,” he says.
Sirius foolishly hopes that he misheard. “You’re… what?”
“I am not leaving.”
No hesitation. No humor. No crack to sink his fingers into.
Or
Sirius plans to grab his brother and run far away from Grimmauld Place. The problem? Regulus refuses to leave. The solution? James Potter.
