Summary
Sirius's name is cleared, and he tries to officially adopt Harry.
Unfortunately, in order to do so, the parental rights of some unknown wizard will have to be terminated. And no one knows who that unknown wizard is, thanks to Gringotts's privacy protections, and the fact that hardly anyone actually knew Lily Potter.
NOTE: Not chronological, shorter/varying-lengths of chapters (each chapter is a single scene or moment). This is a bit of an experiment for me to see if writing this way will let me write more on a single idea. Main story line begins in February of 1996.

Summary
Kara and her husband, Li, left Ba Sing Se behind years ago and now live in Republic City. Life is good: business is booming at the teashop, the children are grown and mildly successful, and Kara is well-connected in her community. The hardships of war are in the past and-well, she can't remember it all that much anyway, so what does it matter?
Kara, after being encouraged by her husband, decides to run for representative of her city district. She hates that Dinh woman anyway, and she feels that the language of her neighbors is in danger.
However, Kara's old memories keep coming back and confusing her. It's been getting worse over the years. She knows it is happening to her husband, too. But do her memories really matter, especially when she has lived more than thirty years without them?

This is a fanfic of a fanfic. The wonderful myrskytuuli wrote the above masterpiece, the Potions Mistress, and if you haven't read it yet, READ IT. It is an incredible take on Lily in Snape's position.
Anyway. After Snape dies in canon, and Lily dies in The Potions Mistress, they encounter another in 1970s Hogwarts...in Hell? An alternative universe past? This is their initial meeting.

They are all giftless. No powers and no candle. But the trapeze can fly and the pyros can eat fire, the tightrope walkers can dance on air and the knife throwers are unable to miss their mark, the stilt walkers are taller than elephants and the contortionists can shrink themselves to fit in any space.
And Mirabel, Miracless Mirabel, looks at these people and sees so much hope. Not a single person in the tent has a gift. And yet, somehow, they /made/ their own gifts.
Mirabel didn't have a gift. But if all these people could create gifts for themselves, surely she could as well.
(Or, Joining the circus seemed like a cool idea when she had nowhere else to go, and it was. Best decision of her life. But then things happen, and years later she must return to the Encanto, and try not to be recognized.)Series
