Summary
Karys had spent nearly her whole life - certainly most of it - burning her candle at both ends. Somehow, she'd survived having her compact with Sebaster called, something which was supposed to be impossible. She knew she should be searching for Ferain - should be putting all her effort into finding him, knowing every moment was precious - but she couldn't find the will. It felt like she was stuck in a freefall, just waiting to hit the ground.
(Karys's friends come and catch her.)
Probably never going to finish this, but I really like the like, one scene I have written, and I don't want it to rot in my drafts forever.

Zoey settles back down, head pillowed on Rumi’s soft chest once more. Her eyes close, and for a moment, the world narrows to the steady rhythm beneath her ear. “Your heart’s pounding.”
“I’m… Yeah.” Rumi admits softly, her fingers rise to weave through Zoey’s hair. “I’m not like you or Mira, is all.”
Zoey nuzzles closer, her breath warm against Rumi’s neck with a, “Not like us? What do you mean?”
“You know. I’m new to all of… this.” Her words come out quieter. “I’m slower, I guess. If that is still okay with you both?”
Zoey lifts her head then, meeting Rumi’s eyes— eyes that dart away, then back again on her, wide and uncertain. There’s so much softness in Zoey’s expression it almost aches to look at.
“Of course it’s okay, Ru. C’mon, you—” She wraps her arms around her, kissing her cheek. “You know that. Don’t be silly. I love you so much. Mira too. We love you.”—
OR, it’s movie night on a rainy evening, and Rumi still doesn’t quite know how to let herself love— not when she’s part human, part something else entirely. But Zoey’s warmth and the quiet safety of their shared space start to teach her what it means to be touched, seen, and wanted.

The morning sun slanting over Rumi's eyes is what wakes her. She has her face turned to the window, cheek smushed flat on the mattress and she can feel the wet cling of drool under her chin. She's warm and cozy otherwise, the blanket is up to her nose, and all she needs to do to get away from the pesky sun is duck her head a little more. So, she does.
And immediately recoils in surprise when her nose hits something hard. And soft. Something hard covered in something soft. The top of Zoey's head. Rumi rubs at her nose in sleepy confusion for a second.
