Alternatively, Wei Wuxian dies alongside the Xuanwu of Slaughter that day, nestled deep inside the caves of Mt. Muxi. Lan Wangji spends 2.5 days with his corpse, and 2 days trudging back to Gusu.

He hurries to where his brother and his fiance(?), Wei Ying, said they were, keen to understand what is going on, when a fourth person enters the scene like an unexpected(ly sexy) storm cloud—Wei Ying's younger brother, Jiang Cheng, who got a similar call and freshly hot-headed from getting pulled out of overtime.
