The cleric offered a small smile, letting their gaze linger in silence—an unspoken invitation for Mike to say something, anything, instead of simply staring with his lips parted ever so slightly.
Mike’s expression flickered. Instinct overtook him as he dropped to one knee and gingerly took the boy’s hand, which was soft yet steady, warm with a kind of quiet power.“Sir Michael of House Wheeler, Knight of the Silver Guard, at your service,” he blurted out—too formal, too fast, yet trembling with a vulnerability that the cleric couldn’t help but let his lips quirk up into a smirk.
“I know who you are,” he teased lightly. After a thoughtful beat, he added, “William the Wise, Cleric of Selûne.”

Paladin Mike Wheeler, second in line to the throne, who must become a knight to protect the firstborn heir
and

According to a divine prophecy, Mike and his party have a year to defeat Vecna before the Undying King fulfills his mission of destroying the world and killing everyone on it. So, no pressure.
On top of this, Mike has been given his own prophecy which states that, during the final battle with Vecna, he would meet the person he was destined to fall in love with- His soulmate. Except there was one problem with this:
Mike was sure he had already met his soulmate: His best friend, Will Byers. (Fantasy!AU)

Will smiles encouragingly at him, swiping his tears away and kissing his forehead again. "Let's make a deal, okay?" he murmurs, voice low and full of a bittersweet sort of hope. "If in five years we're both doing better, and we're not dating anyone else-" Mike blanches at the concept of dating anyone else, of Will dating anyone else- "we can try again, okay?"
Five years sounds like a terribly long time. In five years, Mike will be twenty-three. He'll be done with college, will have a career, could be living anywhere in the world for all he knows, and the same goes for Will.
But five years is a whole lot less than forever, so Mike will take it.
In the summer of 1989, Mike and Will fall apart. Five years later, they fall back together.
