There, Soleum cannot think of any other way to say it without directly saying ‘I love you’, she can only hope that Braun caught onto her meaning. Surely she did, right? There is literally no one else with that exact description.
Braun spins Soleum’s chair around to face the wide-eyed expression on the host’s face. “Soleum dearest, you don’t mean that…” The actor braces herself for the response.

it felt like i was hit over the head with 9 crowbars, oh my dear John…
The absolute love John had for Garcia was both beautiful and tragic, it unraveled him and left him bare. The tenderness in their interactions felt like a twist of the knife when the reveal happened… If only the world were kinder to you John, to be used in such a way and be wholly willing at the end… To give up your body and self to ensure the love of your life obtains happiness feels like something John would do, especially after all he went through in the games and in this fic
Another thing I loved is the change in tone of John’s mental dialogue after the reveal of Garcia’s intentions. It really conveyed the feeling of his tiredness and heartbreak finally catching up to him all at once, it truly felt like listening into someone who’s already decided on their powerlessness in the situation and I can’t even blame him. Could you imagine? All this time you thought you finally meet your one ally on the path you would be walking down alone, be consistently protected by them and be shown a love you have never dreamed of receiving in your lifetime but then it turns out it was never actually you those actions were for but for the intruder who lives inside your mind. John’s so much stronger and kinder than me, I would’ve just jumped off that cliff 😥
Also I didn’t know if this was intentional but the way John asked if Garcia will hurt another again and be responded with “After you? No” only to go back on that promise just moments after bringing back Astaroth.. It feels like it mean something but I can’t put my finger on it..
Overall, a wonderful and tragic story. I cried like 3 times

Beautifully written and an absolute must-read for any fan of the death mark fandom! The growing relationship between Yashiki and Mashita is what takes centre stage and in this fic, their connection felt so real and true. On another note, love Mashita’s characterisation and I physically swooned over Yashiki’s cuteness!!
