Wilbur frowns down at Tommy, eyebrows pulled together. His hair is dishevelled a little— they’d both just woken up about thirty minutes beforehand, having fallen asleep once more on the plane— and his glasses are slightly askew.
Sitting right between his tray table and Tommy’s is the former’s newly bought Nintendo Switch (specifically for this trip) with Animal Crossing open. They haven’t even gotten past the introduction section yet, with Wilbur and Tommy both arguing over what the island name should be, before settling on ‘L’Manburg,’ somehow.
“How exactly am I an idiot?” Wilbur questions, aghast as he shakes the Switch a little.

But he isn’t scared.
So when Phil, his foster father, told Tommy that he was behind on a few vaccines and that Phil had made an appointment for Tommy to get up to date, that was fine! It was great, even.
Sure, all his old foster families didn’t care much to keep his health in check, and he’s pretty sure that he’s never had a flu shot in his whole life, but honestly, that doesn’t even matter. No prior experience on facing one of his greatest fears? He laughs at those who need that consolation.

Or, my coda for episode 8. This show very, very quickly became my hyperfixation. I’ve watched all of the play-through of tlou1, but I’m definitely drawing more from the show. Not that it matters here, but I’m pretending tlou2 doesn’t exist.
This is my first full fic! I thought I was gonna struggle to get 1,000 words, and here we are, 3,000+ words later. Let me know what you think! The title and the italicized lyrics at the beginning are from Be OK by Ingrid Michaelson. No beta, sorry.
