tubbo slowly opens the door, giving tommy time to stop him if he wants. the animal crossing ost fills his ears. tommy stays put, sitting crisscrossed on the floor, leaning against his dresser.
anything tubbo was planning on saying, immediately leaves his brain. he freezes, eyes wide, unpacking the scene in front of him.
there's a light blue adult-sized pacifier with little dinosaur stickers on it lying on the little round carpet, right in front of tommy as if he just spat it out. toy cars are scattered along the floor, one is curled tightly in tommy's hand. there's an orca stuffed animal, that tubbo's pretty sure used to be wilbur's, in his lap. he's wearing overalls and one of tubbo's sweaters that he thought he lost a while ago. and then there's tommy, looking about as scared as tubbo has ever seen him.
tubbo feels completely out of his depth. this probably isn't something he was supposed to see.
"...what?" tubbo asks.

Ranboo is quite tall, this is an inescapable fact. There are good things about it just as there are bad things and even neutral things, just as there would be had he been any other height. It doesn't usually bother him, at least not in a way that's consistently obtrusive or apparent, but one particular thing seems to be nagging at him lately. He's not going to let it get to him, not with his upcoming stay at the Watsons'. He can't be all down in the dumps when he meets Technoblade for the first time, after all!
(On second thought, maybe being upset about it isn't so bad as long as Techno is there.)
Or,
Ranboo's imposing height often makes it somewhat of an inconvenience to be cradled or carried. It's not really that big of a deal, honest, he just sort of hadn't realized exactly how much he might want that until now, is all.

He doesn’t elaborate, but Arthur comes to place a pleasantly heated hand on his shoulder. Linus can’t help but lean into it.

At that, Linus has to turn and give Arthur a frown. “You ridicule Bentham and then you talk about Locke.”
“I’d love to rehash this debate, my dear. Let’s start with Descartes.”
That particular morning debate lasts about four minutes before the two of them have to hurry to get down for breakfast on time.

Arthur Parnassus starts to overcome his fear of exposing the children to the outside world with Linus's help. Zoe Chapelwhite considers her bonds, and who she'll let into her home.
The children continue to be themselves, and terrifyingly, even begin to grow up.

The house is empty when Tommy wakes up.
He can tell by the feel of the air, he doesn’t even need to leave his room. It’s like the warmth has been taken, leaving a lonely chill. The suitcases, always half packed and lined up at their bedroom door like they just can't wait to leave again, are gone.
But he was fine. He was. He didn't need people around to watch him work or offer a hand or throw him some praise. He wasn't five.

“I know, but I can’t help but worry,” Phil says, ignoring Tommy’s shouts as he cups his face, shutting him up, “He’s so new still, so weak and small. He really just needs to be in the nest for a couple decades more.”
