"Mithrun," Kabru breathed. He swallowed the lump in his throat as the elf's ears twitched a beat upward at his name, confirming Kabru's suspicions. He grasped Mithrun's hips with a tight squeeze. "Mithrun- Captain, what did you do? What happened to you?"
"Kabru, please, listen to me," Mithrun begged as Kabru took in the man before him. He lacked his familiar black eye and reddish under circles, now replaced with eyes like silver coins and flawless ruddy cheeks. His lips were plush and intact, his slightly longer hair braided without a strand out of place, and his scars were almost nonexistent save for the few he could spot along his upper arms and thighs. He wasn't himself.
Something flared in Kabru's gut as he gritted out, "What did you do?"

Summary
Mithrun has been bathed by enough people to have become entirely used to the act, and self-consciousness is long since lost to him. Plenty of those who have cared for him have been just as skilled as Kabru – if not more so, professionally. Plenty have felt enough pity for him to be gentle. And yet this feels different, through some quality that Mithrun can’t name.
Mithrun charts Kabru's motives for continuing to assist him, and the unknown territory of his own preferences.

“Are you saying that hanging out with me drives you to drink, Yun? Because that’s rude and unnecessary,” Kakeru said.
“No,” Yuki said. He drew out the word, swatting Kakeru’s arm lightly. “It’s just because I’m selfish and I know you’re there to look out for me.” He leaned closer and Kakeru could smell his sweat and shampoo.
Kakeru’s mouth was dry. He coughed. “And you look out for Machi,” he said.
