Summary
Sequel to "With a Friend in the Dark.”
It's been weeks since Buck's cancer diagnosis, and in most ways, things are looking up. The idea of resuming chemo still frightens him, but not nearly as much as it did last time. This time, he has people on his side. But Buck is about to learn that treatment is just the first challenge. Money troubles, identity crises, learning what real love means for the first time at twenty-seven... who knew cancer would be so complicated?
Eddie, meanwhile, is still wrestling with his guilt and anger over how he handled things the first time. Being there for Buck? That's a given. Figuring out what it means to be Buck's friend through his cancer treatments, in the wake of all that's happened between them? That seems a lot trickier. Even more so when Eddie starts to realize that anger and guilt might not be the only feelings he's having.

“What happened? Are you hurt?”
It took a few more moments, but Buck finally shook his head, eyes turning that glowing red as he looked down to his hands, almost as if he were seeing the gory site for the first time.
“S’not—not mine.”
Athena gave a shake of her head, slowly approaching Buck.
“That’s ok. Can I take a look at it?”
The blood smelled familiar, the scent often lingering around Buck.
“Buck, who’s blood is this?”
She could feel Buck’s hands tremble in her own, Buck seeming panicked, pained. His tongue jutted out like he was going to lick at his lips, but then remembered and thought better of it.
“It’s-it’s Eddies….Eddie’s blood.”

Summary
Buck has had his fair share of traumatic experiences, from a fire truck crushing his leg to a tsunami and almost losing his best friend's child.
He had dreams or nightmares about some of them for a while, but he could always escape it. Fire trucks weren't likely to re-crush his leg anytime soon and being around them daily helped him adjust easy enough and he could always avoid the ocean, although he was already over that trauma thanks to visiting the beach with Chris and Eddie on numerous occasions.
But what will he do now that he's stuck with a trauma he can't escape? Lightning never strikes the same place twice but it sure as Hell doesn't just avoid an area because someone there got hit by it. And thunderstorms didn't wait, they were random and sudden.Buck tries to hide his fear of lightning as he hears the first thunderstorm since his accident, unluckily for him, his firehouse family can read him like a book and soon enough he was being coddled and looked after by everyone there, including his biggest crush, Eddie Diaz.
A lot of chaos and arguing later, Buck finds himself curled up on the couch of the firehouse in Eddie's arms.Bookmarked by mellemm
