Summary
Garp jumps awake, muscles tense and ready to go at a second’s notice, before consciousness can catch up with her. She’s on a moldy mattress in what seems to be a dusty cellar. She doesn’t take notice of the chain binding her until she's yanked back into place by a harsh pull on her wrist. The chain’s thick, solid metal, connecting to the ceiling by one matching bracelet on her wrist. First mistake, she doesn’t need one arm to free herself from anything.

Summary
A hand stops her, gripping her wrist tightly, almost but not quite painfully, and Koby startles back. The breeze turns into a cold gust of fast wind, stealing the warmth of the moment. Koby shakes, hair once more hitting her face, and is afraid to look down at the stranger. She opens her eyes carefully, and her vision is filled with red.
Koby wakes up with a gasp, clutching her chest and covered in sweat.
She doesn’t remember her dream at all.

Summary
Koby gathers the kitty on his arms, jumping down to the ground softly. His feet kick up dust and the cat sneezes. Koby’s heart explodes in his chest and he has to bite down a delighted squeal. It’s slightly snoring, and Koby has the sudden urge to never let it out of his sight, dedicate his life to the cat and, like, brag about it to all his coworkers—oh, this is what Garp must feel like about him. Interesting.
He brings a hand to rub his eyes; they’re feeling dry all of a sudden. He pinches his nose as well, trying to get rid of the weird fuzzy feeling that came out of nowhere. Koby hums, bundling his coat up to cover the cat, and hops back to their base to show it off to Helmeppo.

Summary
“You took this world by storm, with all the confidence of the king you’re aiming to be! But me? I’ve spent the last two years fighting tooth and nail, day in and day out, to prove that I can stand on my own! That I’m strong enough to protect those that can’t protect themselves!”
Koby pretends he doesn’t see the way the corners of Luffy lips turn up into a proud, satisfied smile. He shakes his head and looks away, tears stinging at the corners of his eyes.
“But it’s still not good enough!”
Luffy’s smile drops so quickly Koby wonders if he’d just imagined seeing it.
“Then what the hell is ‘good enough’, Koby?”
“I… what?”
Luffy charges forward and grabs Koby by the front of his shirt, ignoring how the fabric nearly shreds with how hard he’s gripping it. He yanks him forward so he’s right in Koby’s face, eyes boring into his with a fury Koby never thought would be directed at him. He sucks in a breath as he realizes just how close they are, practically nose to nose.
“What. The hell. Is good. Enough.” Luffy repeats through gritted teeth.
