Checking her phone also reveals that no one had texted her about coming over. That rules out Percy, who always checks in before showing up, and… well, Percy is the only person she can think of who would be showing up at her apartment at all. Maybe Pike, but it seems unlikely.
Whoever it is, Keyleth isn't in the mood to talk, so she doesn't move from the couch.
The knock sounds again, louder and faster this time, almost desperate.
"Keyleth, please," a voice— Vex's voice— begs from the hallway. "I know you're home. Can we talk? Please?"

Keyleth deserves better than her, deserves to be wooed and courted and laid down on a bed surrounded by candles and made love to. Vex’ahlia is not the kind of person who could give her that. So she should let her go.
That would be the right thing to do.
But selfishly, she can’t. Her hands are wrapped tight around Keyleth, clutching at her neck and her soft, soft hair, and her bottom lip is between Keyleth’s teeth, and it surrounds her. Thankfully, Annabeth isn’t left with enough time to be brought to tears by his heartfelt admission, because despite his sweet talk, Percy is clearly focused on her pleasure. His teeth scrape gently against her pulse, and her eyes flutter shut, a shaky gasp escaping from between her lips. She could find some sort of perverse salvation in this feeling alone, probably, the way the dull ache of pleasure builds in her neck, echoing between her thighs and emptying her mind of every thought that isn’t related to Percy and where he’s touching her. He’s touching her, hands roving over the curve of her hips, her waist, her breasts, and all Annabeth can focus on is the sensation of heat that flares in every single cell that Percy caresses with his hands, lips, tongue, teeth.

Other than the sex, she genuinely just enjoys spending time with Vex. She’s a vivacious, engaging person, and Keyleth feels more filled with life and energy around her, either alone or in a group, than she often does only by herself. It’s like Vex draws her out of a shell Keyleth couldn’t even see she’d been hiding in. Stopping their arrangement… Keyleth doesn’t think Vex is the type to cut off their friendship because of it, but she really doesn’t want to take that risk. She’s never been much of a gambler, after all.
And gods, even if she doesn’t mean to, Vex has this knack for making Keyleth feel special. The times they’re alone together, the moments before and after they get hot and heavy, Keyleth doesn’t just feel special, it feels like Vex really cares about her.
In the exact same breath, Keyleth knows that this is also a very important reason for her to stop this while she still has the willpower to.

Let’s fill in the blanks. Allow us to provide her with reasons, to show that she is not a stereotype.
Let us give her a story. Actually, tragedy may be a better description.
Tragedy is the only explanation. It is difficult to believe that Karen Smith, the most emotionally intelligent of her kind, was born dumb.
