Summary
Some twenty-three days after the military had come and built fences and guard towers and started routine medical checks, they packed up and left. Sheet metal patched up the rifts in the ground, gates and walls sealed off the gate downtown, and the military retreated back to wherever they came from.
Nancy remembered the last time she ever saw the chain-link fence gates open. She and Mike and Holly had been curious, and it was a rare thing for all three siblings to be in the house at the same time, so they had gone ahead and followed the convoy to the edge of town on their bikes.
One of the men on the back of the final camouflage-painted truck had looked at them with an odd sort of sorrow. They hadn’t understood it then. They understood it now.

during season five the military gets the hell out of hawkins instead of what happened in canon, the power goes out, the gas lines are cut, the water barely works, and it turns into medieval times or some shit in there. inspired by yellowjackets! also the first couple chapters are inspired by the power outage fic but i promise im not trying to BE the power outage fic

Summary
Steve’s getting bad again.
It’s the middle of a January night, it’s cold, and he’s sure he’s going to die this time. The line between lucidity and sleep is blurred to disappearance. His ears are ringing and everything hurts and he’s sure there’s no hell worse than this.
Then Bucky wakes up, and he’s content to suffer quieter if asked, guilt taking him by the throat. He know’s he’s been coughing and heaving all night- it’s a miracle Bucky slept this long.
“Sorry,” he rasps, holding the blanket to his mouth to muffle his coughing.
Bucky, delirious with sleep, says from the bed beside him, “S’okay. I worry about you when you’re quiet.” Thoughtfully, he adds, “When you get better and the war’s over and we’ve got a whole, whole bunch’a money, let’s go places.”
aka steve and bucky wanted to go places and never could.

Summary
In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. When the time comes to move out, however, Castiel has to reconcile himself to the fact that men are going to go down and trust that Dean Winchester may well be the only person who can put them back together again. WW2 ETO infantry AU.

Summary
Mary’s hand joined his on her stomach, resting gently over his knuckles, cool and soft and smooth where his mechanic’s hands were warm and callused and rough. “I thought…” she bit her lip and a furrow appeared between her eyebrows. “I thought we could name him, or her, for my parents.”
There was a silence between them shared for a while, a depth of loss and loneliness as they both remembered their parents.
“Samuel,” John whispered to the solid mound of flesh underneath both of their hands. The silence was broken as she smirked slightly and shook her head, rolling her eyes with fondness and sadness and pinched the top of his hand.
“And Deanna, if it’s a girl,” she reminded.
It was a girl.

Except that he wasn't.
