Summary
One mistake. That's all it took for her to lose everything and everyone she'd ever known, and to be not only thrown out but permanently mutilated by one of the very people entrusted with training and leading her. Vaggie struggles alone with the trauma of the extermination day that led to her falling, unable to admit what really happened even though she knows that Charlie would do anything to help her.
The problem is that Charlie would do just about anything to help just about anyone. Which is how, mere weeks into her first cautious attempts to broach the subject of who she used to be and what really traumatized her, Vaggie finds herself facing the horrifying possibility that Adam might be allowed to stay at the hotel for almost 2 weeks.
Vaggie knows that Charlie doesn't have a clue what Adam did to Vaggie on the last day before she fell, what led Vaggie to lose faith in the necessity of exterminations and to slip up and commit that fateful act of mercy. But even if she can work up the courage to tell her, Vaggie's not entirely sure she trusts that it would change Charlie's decision. And that's the most frightening possibility of all.
