Josh should have looked up what he was getting into. What The Ivory was.

Because standing outside the unmarked building, taking in its barely flickering neon sign and the blacked-out windows, he was getting a feeling. The kind of feeling that made the hairs on his arms prickle. It didn’t look shady, exactly—no busted-out lights, no sketchy figures lurking in the alley—but it was definitely something. Something his gut was already warning him about.

"Uh—hi. Hello," he started, his voice catching awkwardly in his throat. "I’m Josh Dun. I—uh, I have an interview? With, uh… Tyler Joseph?"

Or : Josh didn't read the job's ad and now he's working in a brothel as security.

    Summary

He lit a cigarette with his fingertip and took a drag, leaning hard against the pillar behind him, sliding down into a squat, glad the sidewalk was mostly empty. He sat like that for a while, lost in thought, just appreciating the silence, until he felt a tap on his shoulder. He twisted around and looked up at the man standing there.

“Sorry to bother you. You wouldn’t have a lighter by any chance, would you?” the man said.
Zuko stood up, turning to face the man fully. He felt suddenly lightheaded from standing too abruptly and reached out to steady himself against the concrete beside him, managing to reach out a flame-tipped finger with his other hand.
“Thanks,” the man said, leaning in slightly to light the tip of his cigarette, eyes locked with Zuko’s the whole time.
    Zuko stared dumbly.

“Look, I did something stupid, and I’m better now so can we get all of these needles out of me and these sticky things off of me?”

“Sokka,” His father’s voice is hard but not rough. He talks to Sokka like he’s a kid convinced his backyard contraption can actually fly him across the world. “You attempted suicide and almost succeeded.”

“Yeah, and grass is green, and the sky is blue. Can we just go home?”

The look his father gives him almost makes him wither. He’s seen this face on his dad before but never for him. Sometimes, he’d catch the man looking at old photos- or sometimes, he’d stare at him and Katara for a bit too long. Like he was grieving.

But he can’t grieve Sokka if he’s not even fucking dead.

“Sokka…you need help. Help that I don’t think you’re going to get going home, son.”

Or Sokka attempts suicide, kisses a guy, and finds out the world is a bit crazy for everyone.

    Summary

"Sokka" Zuko spoke, garnering the tribesman's attention.

"Fire Lord Zuko," Sokka said, lowering his gaze to avoid Zuko's eyes, "you look well," Zuko felt so small.

Sokka spoke mechanically, rehearsed, like the conversation was strained and the six words were something he might choke on.

    It dawned on him.

Zuko was alone, not even Hakoda was here to defend him from the carnivorous harpies, it was just him. His hands shook, lips trembled, but he did his best to show face. His smile disappeared, his warmth dying like the last coals on a hearth, and Zuko felt cold.

    He hated the cold.
