“Come here,” Josh gets to his feet jerkily, a puppet strung along on strings as he moves closer. "Sit still."
Josh obeys. Of course he does. He has no other choice. The collar affixed around his neck makes sure of that.
The stranger stares down at him with kind brown eyes, a gentle hand reaching forwards, brushing against Josh's fur. He straightens up to face the shopkeeper with a nod.
"I'll take him."

Tyler is lonely and impulsively decides to wander into a magical animal shop to buy a cute dog to keep him company. Josh, a shifter stuck in his dog form and cursed by a Sorcerer to obey every command given to him, isn't as fond of the idea.
Somewhere along the way, they both find exactly what they were looking for.

Tensions rise as they welcome someone new into their lives.

His kitchen had one pot, one bowl, one fork, one knife, one spoon, one rag and one cup. His room had one chair, one bed and one desk and on his one and only windowsill was one ash tray. When he brushed his teeth in the evenings he put away his one toothbrush to the only lone cup on the sink. There was no grayer creature in Dema.
AND THE TORCHBEARER
For some reason never before has Josh considered that a filleted stomach, split open like a gutted fish would smell this bad but of course it would. Blood and shit would leak out of the open bowels and pool, seep into the earth. Skulls cracked like nuts, arteries perforated, lungs filled with blood - in shock he didn’t even manage to quickly end the last man. Stunned at his own actions Josh stood and watched as the last soldier managed to drown in his own blood before even bleeding out.

As he explores the zones he eventually runs into a group of fellow runaways. Torchbearer, the leader of the group that call themselves the banditos, isn't happy to let Tyler stay with them. However as time passes Tyler and Torchbearer grow close, but nothing good can stay forever in the zones. Draculoids are still after them and they can't run forever, right?

Heaven has always been his goal.
But sometimes the pleasure burns brighter than fate.
He has always attended Saturday school in the church where he goes with his family. God is his pastor and saviour and the bible is the rule of what his life should be fueled by to live to be worthy of his love.
Praying, asking for salvation, to meet a pretty girl and have a big family, to be a great man, a good man and son, and someday a good brother and husband.
The rosary on his neck, always playing with the cross and beads, praying on his knees at church, at his room, crying and moving his body. The guilt of being different is holding him prisoner.
His body full of marks, his throat rusty by screaming for his salvation and mercy, even filling his body with his symbol, where he died to save everyone from their sins.
But, all the efforts that he had made to be a good Christian had been in vain when he met the punk boy, the friend of a friend and apparently even lover of his music. A drummer, son of a christian family.
The boy looked like everything the Bible warned him about, dyed hair like fire, metal glinting on his lips, a smirk that felt like sin itself.
