    “Hey Five,” the crackly answering machine relayed to him, “It’s Viktor. Just wanted to let you know, I bumped into Klaus the other day- at the employment office, can you believe it? Didn’t think he was the 9 to 5 type. Anyway, he’s all fine and I gave him your number, he said he’d spread it to the others when he got the chance. So, um… yeah. Call me back when you can. Bye.”

    Five listened to the message three times in total, his brother’s voice bouncing off the crooked walls. When it ended, the silence crept back in like a heavy fog until Five could remember he was sitting in a darkened, shabby room, utterly alone.

    He needed something to drink.

    Five gets a new job, a new life a new universe. Then why did it feel like nothing had changed at all?

    Everything that happened after the Hargreeves were blown into a new reality, told through messages on Five's answering machine. None of which he'd answer, of course. Just being around his family could put their new lives at risk- the further he could keep, the safer they'd be. It was better that way.
