She can’t lie to herself. Ena’s first thought is of Mizuki.
Mizuki, her best friend. Better put as her estranged best friend, but she doesn’t. In the little time the two do talk, they still refer to her as “best friend,” and for Ena, that has to be the most painful part.

Someone that had entered her mind the moment Yukihira gave her the task, and one that she had been rather close to. A person in which she’s seen various emotions from, including one that prompted Ena to step out of her comfort zone just to reach out a helping hand.
No, it hadn’t been Kanade, or Mafuyu, or, hell, not even Airi. But the one with the most emotions on full display out of all of them combined, yet is also the very person who also hides the most out of anyone that Ena knew. Someone who seemed rather comfortable with being loud and outgoing around a group of introverts such as Niigo, and yet held a sense of distance with their smile and actions.

Ena’s tracing pauses. Through their still obscured vision, Mizuki senses the benignity at which Ena drags her free hand upwards to their forehead, the affection with how she brushes back their feathered bangs, and the gentleness as she places a chaste kiss at the center of their brow.
It’s a reminder of a promise far too tender, too centric for the pair that borders the feeling of heartache.
