Curiosity and confusion over took Kylo's anger as he inspected the general. Something was very obviously trying to protrude from the inside of his pants, but it may very well just be a pen. Or maybe the rod jammed up his pretentious ass was finally falling out. Who knows?

Barnes is now glaring at him for some reason. It's somewhat terrifying but also, oddly, a little reassuring— because that's emotion right there, which means there's still somebody behind those eyes. Somebody who seems to think Sam is being a bit slow on the uptake. "Time parameters exceeded. Mission failed."
"Wait." Sam narrows his eyes. "Is this some kind of... report? Debriefing?"
"Mission report," confirms Barnes, looking pleased. Well, looking slightly less murderous than before.

Kylo knows before the Supreme Leader is even consulted that he will not allow a rescue mission for their General.
He knows this because it's is his immediate response to the news too. It makes sense; after all, Hux is hardly irreplaceable. He is merely a man and though Snoke will be hard pushed to find someone as smart, as loyal, as quick as Hux there is no shortage of suitable successors. Besides, men break easily and when men break they talk.
