“Bullshit.” Art’s voice cuts through the air like a knife, and Patrick flinches, the word hitting him harder than he expected. “Don’t lie to me. Not now. Not about this.”
Patrick’s lips part, but no words come out.
The intensity in Art’s eyes. The way his voice wavers just slightly. It makes Patrick weak in the knees. He tries his best not to buckle under the pressure, but the silence stretches, suffocating, until Patrick can’t take it.
“I need the money,” Patrick mutters, barely above a whisper. The words hang there, raw and heavy. “I need the money, Art. I don’t have a place to stay tonight.”
