Their own input or preferences don't matter; Silbern is a place where you can only rely on your own strength or on his Majesty's favor, and they only have the latter right now, for reasons they don't even understand.

Summary
Ichigo and Orihime were high school sweethearts and now they're a respectable married couple with a perfectly fine little suburban house and a child. (Well, tolerably fine. The house, not the child. The child is great.) They are sweet and loving and supportive and there is nothing missing in their life. Nope! Nothing.
Nelliel and Grimmjow sure as hell aren't married, and never mind being respectable in any way, but they managed to breed somehow so they're gonna have to deal with that. As soon as they manage to deal with being jobless and evicted.
Surely those two people they had a pretty bad run-in with as teenagers are not going to be of any help, though... Oh.

Drift was into spiritualism these days. Mainly because Autobots weren't nervous around a bot who was discussing his beliefs; and a bit because he thought he might find something to help him atone for the lives he'd ended one by one. But all those millennia he'd happily murdered away, he'd only been trying to catch up to Hot Rod's kill count.
Hot Rod had been described by Decepticon High Command as ruthless in his willingness to fight the New Senate's corruption—he'd slaughtered his own home city so Zeta Prime couldn't have it. Had Hot Rod joined the Autobots instead of the Decepticons to run from Nyon? Had it helped?
Drift didn't need to ask to know it hadn't.
Hot Rod—now Rodimus, after an intimate encounter with the Matrix—would ask, "So, what do you believe in today?" with a smirk like it was a joke; and then he'd listen with genuine interest to the answer.
Sometimes Drift—Drift, who had spent most of his life sure that he'd sooner rip out his own Deceptibranded spark than ever follow someone who called himself a Prime—was tempted to say, "Today, I believe in you."

His Majesty was dead, and for reasons Jugram Haschwalth did not yet understand, he was not.
Or: Uryū Ishida is the successor to the Qunicy Throne. An inexperienced leader, he is in need of an advisor. Who better else, than the man who served at the side of the previous king for well over a thousand years?
