Invece di rispondere, Beth aprì di scatto la zip del borsone mostrando i pacchi ordinati di banconote all’interno, per poi fare un passo indietro e indicarla come se fosse il conduttore di un gioco televisivo.
La curva abbozzata si arricciò e si allungò, un sorriso pieno si estese sul volto di lui. Era astuto e divertito, soddisfatto nel modo in cui soleva essere quando gli veniva presentata una pila di soldi, ma c’era anche qualcos’altro, qualcosa di intenso e vagamente minaccioso che provocò uno sfarfallio nello stomaco di Beth di rimando.
