Han Sooyoung felt like she was watching them from the bottom of a murky lake, anchored by the weight of the past as it refused to let her move on from the despair that swallowed her whole. How did you find peace? she wanted to ask their shadows as they wandered above the surface of the lake. How do you move on from a world that took everything from you? The words never left her lips.
They probably wouldn’t know, anyways. After all, she was the one to bear the burden of being the orchestrator of the great tragedy that made this world. It was her very own sin that she atoned for every day.
And then there was Yoo Joonghyuk. She glanced at him, the lines that graced his face and the white that dusted the hair at his temples. He was neither the perpetrator nor the purpose of the sin of this universe, and yet here he was, dragged along by the unforgiving riptide that Han Sooyoung had willed into existence.

“Hello—? Are you still there? Did you actually die, you idiot, what the hell—” Wen Qing asked over the phone but Wei Ying paid her no mind. He was too busy staring at the blue-and-white billboard, the flashy words proclaiming the performance of Lightbearer at a popular concert venue, and besides that was the huge, blown-up picture of—Lan Zhan?

He’s not sure why he’s so surprised – the Drakes are known for their work in archeology, and not much of that can be done locally. Still, he assumed that they took Timothy with them when they left the country for work. It seems a shame to leave him with a nanny this close to Christmas.
“Okay,” he says, erasing the numbers typed into his phone. “What’s your nanny’s number, then?”
“My what?” Timothy looks scandalized.
“Your babysitter? Whoever is in charge of you while your parents are gone,” he clarifies.
“I’m in charge of me when my parents are gone,” Timothy says proudly, his little chest puffing out. “I’m the Man of the House.”

Summary
