“You look hot. You’re a hot blonde,” Lottie muses, almost as if she’s not aware she’s speaking out loud. “Of course you’d be able to pull it off. You little bitch.”
"You're just jealous I’m prettier than you.”
Lottie hums, smirks, shrugs a shoulder and turns to look at her own reflection. “Should I cut my hair, too?” She grabs her pigtails and curls the ends upwards, right to the base of her neck. Lottie certainly could rock a bob, but for some dumb reason, Nat’s heedless tongue blurts, “Don’t.”
“What?” Lottie asks, hair dropping down her shoulders again. “Why?”
“I just —“ Natalie stammers, squinting against the harsh light of Lottie’s bathroom. Fleetwood Mac buzzes to a low rumble, deafened by the heartbeat stuttering obnoxiously in her eardrums. “I like your hair long.”

Summary

Nat is twenty one and she is tired. Sober for over a year, working the same four shifts (Thursday through Sunday, 4-8pm) at the same dingy used bookstore as a weird mutualistic favor to her mom’s friend’s aunt. Drowning in pity, left knee aching in the mornings, kept alive by the good grace of a Keurig and the crotchety shop cat’s need for semi-regular mealtimes, Nat is in no shape to rescue anyone.
A stranger with dark hair and darker eyes, rambling about queens and goddesses, doesn’t fit well in her nonexistent plans.

Summary
Look, of course she has a favorite customer. There are a couple regulars that she likes, but the tall brunette influencer has to be her favorite. Lottie Matthews — yeah, she followed her on Instagram when she found out who exactly she was from gossip-hungry Ben, so what? — is about as rich and privileged as most of their customer base tends to be, but she’s also insanely attractive, and nice, and will scrunch her nose up all cute whenever she asks Nat which of the baked goods she should try today, as if they don’t sell the same stuff day in and out.
Unlike the other rich assholes that come here, Lottie never treats Nat like shit, never asks her if their oat milk is organic and cruelty-free, and doesn’t expect her to remember her coffee order, even though she totally does.
OR: Nat's only working at the bakery to supplement her income as an up-and-coming photographer. Lottie is gorgeous, famous and infuriatingly down to earth, and kind of every photographer's wet dream, so of course Nat is obsessed with her.

There is something to be said about spilling your own blood in service to another, but what about spilling someone else’s blood? Is that not a sacrifice in its own right? Shauna doesn’t really know what she’s doing. That doesn’t matter, here. She just knows that she needs to be with Jackie, and she needs Jackie to be okay, and she’ll do anything to keep her. Anything. Then she handed her the flower and left. It had French words scribbled across one side and pink highlighter on the other, and the tip was ripped like the girl had just torn her class notes in half to make the stupid thing.
