I don’t remember telling Tyler this, but he laughs about it anyway, and breathes a cloud of stinging smoke onto a fresh, bruising gash on my left shoulder. I flinch and scowl and tell him those things will kill him one day, and he just grins like he upped the soap price to thirty dollars (not for the money - never for the money, just for the kick) and says some philosophical bullshit about his lungs being carved from the ear cartilage of God, or something like that.
