Peter inhales too sharply and then chokes on his own breath. He slams his fist against his chest, and it takes him a few seconds of wheezing before he can speak again.
When he finally does, the look he gives her is so pained, she almost feels bad. “Why are you asking that?”

When Peter’s at their apartment she tries to superimpose the videos of Spider-Man over the reality of him. He doesn’t scream Spider-Man. Peter lets himself be tired or quiet or gentle. Spider-Man seems taller on tv. Peter dresses loosely and doesn’t give the impression he could get run over by a train and live to tell about it - which Ned says did in fact occur. But Ned’s always trying to sell Spider-Man or Peter Parker or both to her. It’s like living with a used car salesman.
