The only way to achieve perfection was to have mortality. Without it, he was nothing but a heartless being.Little did he realize — even with newfound mortality — that mistake would come back to haunt him.

He looks down at her still steaming cup of tea. His unspoken question hangs heavy in the air. She feels like banging her head against the wall. Stat slides the cup across the table, “You got your air on this, so now I don’t want it. Talking to you made me lose my appetite.”
He makes what seems like a frown. “How childish.”
“I don’t want to hear that coming from someone who has the emotional intelligence of a five year old. Hurry up and drink it already.”
Stat watches as Null puts the teacup to his lips and takes a small sip. She doesn’t look away from his slightly parted lips when he pulls the teacup away and swipes his tongue over them to catch any stray drops. She blinks. That was surprisingly human of him. She was expecting something more… ridiculous. Like unlocking his jaw and pouring all of the cup’s contents down his throat.”
