Summary
Funchal is a good city to start over. George has been trying for three months.
He came to be somewhere quiet, somewhere close to the sea, somewhere his name didn't mean anything to anyone. What he finds instead: a wealthy man who doesn't take no for an answer, three unruly cats, a restaurant owner who feeds him without asking too much, a colleague who pretends not to care but always does, and a dog he didn't plan on keeping.
