She just wanted Andrea to fail already, so Emily could say she told them so, so she wouldn't have to look at those clueless doe eyes anymore. Her chest burned, and she coughed once, willing this feeling away. A single blue — cerulean — petal landed on her desk.

Perhaps the most heartbreaking consequence of this promise to erase Andrea is that the expensive clothes are wasted. Stuffed to the back of her closet, because she is unable to look at them. (In her weaker moments, she puts the clothes on and imagines they still smell like Andy. Even though she knows it is a lie.) All she can hear when she catches a glimpse of them gathering dust is the dial tone ringing and ringing and nobody picking up.
