    Summary

Shannon Diaz née Garrett had a high tolerance for bullshit. You don’t get married at eighteen, become a mom at nineteen, and survive living under the omnipresent gaze of the world’s most… particular in-laws without developing many, many strategies for self-preservation. Every snide remark about Chris’ CP, every passive aggressive comment from Helena Diaz, every vertebra of Eddie’s liquid spine, Shannon took right on the chin with a smile on her face.

But there was no corner of Shannon’s life that she tested her extreme tolerance for bullshit more than whatever the Samwise-and-Frodo, Bert-and-Ernie, Crockett-and-Tubbs hell was going on between her ex-husband and his best friend.

(In which Shannon Diaz née Garrett lives, gets divorced, and helps her ex-husband realize that he’s in love with his best friend)

    Summary

This is all perfectly applicable to friendship. Friendships require effort. Intentionality. Sometimes you have to watch a minute long Instagram video about attracting men to figure out how to get your male best friend to come back to your house and fall asleep on your couch again. Or in your bed. Either one.

Whatever Buck's comfortable with. Eddie's not picky.

Eddie will take whatever proximity Buck is willing to offer and be grateful for it, and if that sounds desperate then fine, it's a little desperate, but it's friend-desperate, which is a completely different thing than regular desperate.

He replays the video and takes mental notes, formulating a plan that is simple: get Buck's attention. Spend more time with Buck. Stop feeling like his ribcage has been hollowed out with a melon baller every time he goes forty-eight hours without hearing Buck laugh.

Easy and straightforward. He’s got this.

    Or,
Five times Eddie tries to show Buck how much he misses him; plus the one time he just says it.

    Summary

The guy leans across the table to hand Buck the card and their fingers touch.

    Eddie's vision tunnels.

It's — okay, it's not a touch touch. It's a brush. It's the kind of brush that happens any time two human beings transfer a small object, it is a purely functional hand-to-hand delivery of a business card, and the guy's wife, his lovely wife who Eddie is very grateful for, made the card herself, and Eddie knows all of this, and he’s being totally normal about it.

Eddie yanks on the back of Buck's shirt without meaning to. Buck stumbles back a quarter-step.

"I'm Buck, by the way." Buck recovers, tucks the card into his back pocket, sliding his arm around Eddie's waist. "This is my boyfriend, Eddie."

    Boyfriend.

Eddie's whole body loosens another notch.

"Oh, nice to meet you both." The guy sticks his hand out to shake. "I'm Glen."

    Or,
Buck is Eddie's boyfriend and Eddie, for one, is over the moon about it.
He's not so sure about this Glen guy, though.

    Summary

"Eddie, why aren't you dressed in your uniform?" Bobby asked, having just noticed that Eddie was only wearing his work pants and a compression top.

A sheepish look appeared on the alpha's face as he looked down at the pregnant omega that was currently using his lap as a pillow while he napped.

Bobby frowned slightly, then looked down and sighed heavily when he saw that Buck was clinging onto the work top in question like a child using a comforter as their safety blanket.

"Let me guess, he's at the nesting stage?" Bobby asked as Eddie carded his fingers through his hair, wearing a loving smile. Hen just sighed heavily and leaned to whisper to Chimney. "Something tells me that Eddie is exactly where he wants to be."

    Summary

“Just rest now,” Bobby says. His voice retains the authority of a commanding officer — the tone that Eddie has been drilled to obey since he was seventeen. But behind it is something else. Something with more worry, more anguish.

“Wait,” Eddie says. Memories hide behind frosted glass in his mind. Something is missing, something important. His eyes sweep the room, searching every corner for the one person who isn’t there.

The question breaks through the frosted glass. “Bobby, where is he?”

“Eddie…” Bobby says slowly. “We can talk about it later when you’re feeling better.”

“Bobby,” Eddie says, slow and calm despite the panic racing through his veins. “I need to know.”
