Summary
Julie Molina is turning sixteen. She knows that means that she will most likely wake up with her soulmate in her bed, and the first skin-to-skin contact will solidify the red string of Fate and an emotional connection. And she used to want that more than anything. But after losing her mom, Julie isn't so sure she wants a soulmate anymore.
Luke Patterson is seventeen, six months away from his eighteenth birthday. He never got a soulmate. All he wants is someone to love and accept him for who he is, to feel that same connection with someone that he feels when he plays music. He's starting to think maybe he just doesn't have a soulmate, that he'll never get that connection that he so craves.
Then Luke wakes up in Julie's bed on her sixteenth birthday, and they're thrown into a relationship that they don't understand and is completely different from what they already know. But maybe Fate didn't get it so wrong after all.

Luke was watching her now, too.
“And what’s your favorite?” Alex asked. His eyes were bouncing back and forth between her and Luke and he had this gleeful little smile on his face.
Julie forgot to be mad at him as she thought about her favorite Trevor Wilson song, a small smile on her face. Well, Luke’s song, she supposed. And now that she really thought about it, the title made so much more sense now.
“My Name is Luke,” she said. Distantly, she heard something small clatter to the ground and the unpleasant twang of guitar strings being hit too violently. But Julie was caught up in her memories of listening to that song—the way it made her feel, so accepted and understood; the melody that would get stuck in her head for days; singing it with her mom as loudly as she could.

“Hey, boss,” Luke said, rubbing the back of his neck. “I, uh, wanted to ask you…” he paused to swallow hard, “if maybe you’d want to come to the Sunset Curve gig tonight? The owner of Eats&Beats offered us a full set tonight. About ten or eleven songs, actually. I was hoping… you could be there?”
“A whole set?! Luke, that’s amazing!” Julie exclaimed when she pulled away. He kept his arms around her, his thumbs making circles on her waist. “Of course I’ll be there!”
Luke smiled softly at her, watching her excitement for him. He pulled her a little bit closer to him as he said, “And then, I thought, I could maybe buy you dinner? You know, after?”
