Summary
June and Nick meet at the old school a second time towards the end of Season 5.
I liked this scene except how it ended and then, depsite a loving end to Season 5, Season 6 did not honor this relationship.
This is a rewriting of the end of that scene that sets the tone for the Season 6 I would have preferred.

I'm in the stage of grief where I am pretending Season 6 never happened. Join me!
It's been two years since Nick saw June in the hospital in Toronto. They have both been on their own journey under the assumption they would never see each other again. Some elements of their journeys might sound like things you saw in Season 6, but remember, that doesn't exist :)
Love like theirs finds its way back to the surface. This time, in Calgary.

Summary
In my continued effort to find every point the story could have gone a better way, this story starts at Serena and Gabriel's wedding.
In Episode 8, Nick and June are both present at this wedding. Nick as the dutiful son in law of the groom, and June, dressed as a Handmaid, preparing for a massacre of Commanders. She sees him, he feels her presence, and it was a real missed opportunity.
In this story, they will get a chance to talk and see what's next for each of them and if they can in fact, overcome all that has happened.

Summary
Picking up in the middle of the conversation at Mile Marker 17 in Episode 3 of Season 6... Nick has just helped June rescue Moira and Luke from an abandoned water park in No Man's Land. In the process he had to shoot two Guardians. They have now driven back to meet Mark Tuello who wil take the three back to their Mayday camp. They are standing in the woods, with he headlights of both cars as the only light. Everyone has moved towards Marks car and Nick and June need to say goodbye to each other. Again.
This closing scene for Episode 3 left me certain that Nick and June would find each other again, in a good way. But instead, they broke my heart.
So, this is my attempt to fix the story starting right there in the woods, while Mark Tuello, Luke and Moira wait for June to say goodbye to Nick. And what could have been after that.I'm becoming a little obsessed with all the points in the story that could have taken the story the way I wanted, but didn't.

Summary
Very mild spoilers for season 6, episode 3: "Devotion."
June and Nick show up at a water park in No Man's Land to rescue Luke and Moira, who've gotten trapped there. Then they all get into Nick's car and drive back to the safety of Canada. It's daylight when they leave the park, and night when they arrive, so a few hours have elapsed. That's a long time for those four characters to be stuck in a car! Let's explore the conversation....Bookmarked by newfan96

Summary
This story is a slow, interior one. It’s interested less in plot mechanics or quick resolution, and more in what survival leaves behind—in the body, in memory, in relationships that don’t fit neatly anymore.
I’m writing June’s recovery as nonlinear and often uncomfortable, and the people around her—Nick, Luke, Theo, Rita—are meant to complicate that process rather than solve it. Love here doesn’t erase damage. Safety doesn’t arrive all at once. Some answers take a long time to surface, and some never fully do.
Nick’s presence in this story is intentional in its restraint. His absence matters as much as his eventual arrival, and when he does appear, it won’t be as a cure or a reward. Choices will stay messy. Feelings will overlap. Growth won’t always look like progress.
If you’re here for quiet tension, emotional realism, and character-driven exploration, I’m glad you found this. If you’re looking for faster catharsis, I appreciate your patience—I promise the slowness is purposeful.
Thank you for reading. It means more than you know.
