Summary
Rumi is eleven, and she is going to die. This is a fact. It’s true for everyone, she supposes, but it’s different for her.
Rumi is going to die. Not today. Probably not tomorrow. But soon. Sooner than most. Rumi is not going to live a long life. She might not even make it a quarter of the way through.
Rumi is eleven, and she realizes just how short her lifespan will be. Rumi is going to die young, just like her mother, because she is a demon. She is both demon and hunter, predator and prey, and there is no possible way she will get to grow old.

Summary
Zoey starts to move and Rumi, familiar with how she telegraphs her movements, knows she’s seconds away from lunging at Mira's father. Mira grasps her wrist like a lifeline.
“Please don’t,” she murmurs. Zoey stands down as he exits the room. “I just want to get through the next day so I can never talk to any of these assholes again.”
Rumi and Zoey share a look over Mira’s head, the thirst for vengeance crackling in the air between them. This is not over.
---
At her grandmother's wake, Mira learns that her family intends to withhold the only heirloom she cares about - a book of recipes her grandmother promised her. Zoey and Rumi plot their revenge in secret while trying to support Mira and avoid a confrontation with her family.Bookmarked by Ru J (nfminfs)

Summary
RUMI: She snores. She sleep talks. She hogs the blankets. When she’s in the middle she likes to starfish. She kicks in her sleep sometimes. I could go on and on.
ZOEY: Slander! This is slander, I tell you! Hearsay, hearsay!
MIRA: We still love you, though.
RUMI: Yeah. Even if you brought your knives to bed, I would still sleep with you.
Zoey coughs and turns red at Rumi’s words. A moment later, Rumi seems to fully hear herself and how her words could be misinterpreted.
RUMI: Wait, not like that! Not like that!

Summary
Dearest Miyeong,
Your daughter learned to walk today.
She was making that face you
dodid whenever you think too hard, like whenever you tried to do sudoku. She looks more like you everyday.I want her to know you - to know that she's yours. She has me of course, but I can never be you. What you would've been to her. What you'll always be, no matter how far you are.
I promise she'll know you. And you'll know her.

Summary
Rumi loves the same way her father did.
Quiet and steady. Near without overwhelming.
She even smiles in the same way he did. Especially when Mira gets mean. The two of them having taken over one of the guest rooms as the pregnancy had progressed. Mira's old one if she remembers correctly.
Rumi loves like her father.
Celine doesn't know what to do with that.
Somedays Celine has to remind herself that it isn't Sunwoo in her home. That the short hair and patterns belong to his daughter and not the man who never got to raise her. It only happens in the dark. When shadows are soft and Celine can't see purple.
