Summary
"At first Bea openly opposed the treasures she brought home, though she always relented in the end and let Ava find a place for them. Now, it seemed that she was slowly learning that this was part of the job of protecting and training the Warrior Nun.
Job requirements: Accept that the Warrior Nun can and will drag home whatever shit she finds physical or emotional value in."

or, Ava's never had a place to call home before. when she finally does, she's determined to make it her own (make it her bitch, if you will). that includes decorating the hell out of their tiny apartment in Switzerland, much to Beatrice's amusement (and eventually, affection).

Summary
"It’s kind of weird. Knowing that that happened to me, and knowing what it felt like before the Halo healed me, hearing my body put itself back together; and having no physical representation of it.”
“It’s kind of weird to me too. I watched it happen, I watched you fall so far. When you fell, you bounced, Ava. Off of cement. The human body doesn't survive a fall like that… we’re fragile. I knew exactly what had happened to your organs, and I knew that you would have died on impact, despite my faithless hopes that you were somehow okay. And I’m so grateful that you’re here with me right now, but it's… it’s jarring, having you in front of me like this, perfectly fine. You shouldn’t be.”

Summary
Ava drifts, flitting from one formless place to another, catching glimpses of vaguely familiar faces, hearing things she has heard before—please don’t leave me, I don’t want you to die.
Beatrice so rarely asks her for anything, and Ava hates that she couldn’t even give her this one thing. The least she can do is go back.
Preferably alive.

Summary
“We created it. But, biologically, it’s identical to any other. I have the same need for sleep, food, water.”
“Created it, huh?” Ava leaned a shoulder against the doorframe. “Based on what?”
“Input from our limited data on earth. We developed a cache of features and arranged them.”
“Ah, like create a Sim.” Ava nodded. At Beatrice’s blank look, she said, “It’s an earth game. We’ll play sometime. And, um, you know. You guys did a great job. At arranging.”
“Thank you.” Beatrice blinked. “It was designed to be aesthetically pleasing.”
“So you’re hot on purpose.” She blew out a long breath. “Honestly, thank God. That’s kind of relieving. I was worried I was—”

Summary
She tells the darkness that she wants to build a life with Ava, says Ava’s name so softly and reverently that her hope begins to make light, sparking a flame. She imagines every grand detail, and every small one, too: going back to their place in the Alps, holding Ava’s hand in the broad openness of their town, drinking with her on Friday nights, kissing her hello and goodbye and for no reason at all.
She wants to carry Ava home after a long night. She wants Ava in her clothes, Ava in nothing at all, to never feel shame again. She doesn’t think she could; she could never be ashamed of loving Ava.
Come back, she thinks as the sun starts to rise, as she feels enough peace to close her eyes. Come back. There is so much I can’t wait to do with you.
And maybe it’s all the years she spent between pews, or all the times she’s fallen to her knees, or maybe it is just simple truth, however idealistic, but Beatrice really can’t help but think that Ava hears her.
(or, when Ava goes, Beatrice's family steps up for her as she learns to stand again. Beatrice growing after Ava is gone and after Ava returns to be with her – how they learn to live together, to be alive, and everything that it means.)
